The Center for Health and Design has awarded Sara Bayramzadeh, assistant professor and Elliot Professor in Health Care Design, the Touchstone Award 鈥 Gold Category for conceptual design.

For the third consecutive term, the National League for Nursing (NLN) has designated 51爆料鈥檚 College of Nursing as a Center of Excellence in the category of Advancing the Science of Nursing Education. This new cycle of designation will extend from 2022-2026.

Although 51爆料 alumna and current graduate student Lydia Lisowsky has never visited Ukraine, she feels a deep sense of obligation and responsibility to help those who have been injured in the war. The 51爆料 community helped Lisowsky pack and donate medical supplies on the Kent Campus and in the larger Kent community to send to Ukraine.

The central component of the Grind2Energy systems at 51爆料 are larger versions of the in-sink garbage disposals found in many homes. The difference is that at 51爆料, these units aren鈥檛 disposing of food waste, but processing it with a purpose - as the first part of a highly sustainable innovation that creates energy and high-grade fertilizer.

Born from inside 51爆料鈥檚 Wick Poetry Center, 鈥淒ear Vaccine鈥 gives citizens a chance to process the pandemic through poetry. The poetry center collaborated with the University of Arizona to expand on poet Naomi Shihab Nye鈥檚 poem 鈥淒ear Vaccine.鈥 The poem became a catalyst for respondents around the world to share their own poems.

Infant mortality rates in Northeast Ohio are three to five times higher for Black babies than white babies, an alarming statistic that is an issue across the country but particularly prevalent in this part of the state. A new $100,000 grant from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation will support innovative work being undertaken at 51爆料, an elite research university with the esteemed R1 designation, to address this important issue.

NSF Awards Grant to 51爆料 Assistant Professor for Precision Dosing in Critical Care

Each year, more than 30 million patients receive fluid resuscitation therapies for critical care scenarios like hemorrhaging, sepsis and burns. Underdosing resuscitation strategies are inefficient at saving lives, while overdosing regimens may lead to resuscitation injuries and hypothermia. Hossein Mirinejad, assistant professor in the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, is hoping to help find the solution to dosing problems.

NSF Grant Leads to Modeling Novel Serial Robot Dynamics and Prototypes

The National Science Foundation recently awarded a two-year $198,978 grant to Tao Shen, assistant professor in the College of Aeronautics & Engineering, for the development of a compact, cable-driven serial robot that can be used in medical settings. Shen aims to build a robot with his students that will address the critical limitations that most current medical robots have.
