51���� observes Memorial Day on May 26. No classes are scheduled on the holiday, and university offices are closed.

For all of her exemplary work Theresa Yogi was recently awarded  51����’s  Distinguished Advising Award by University Advising and the Kent Academic Advising Support and Advising Association (KASADA).  Of her 13-year career, Yogi has spent 7.5 years at 51����'s Honors College.

A star-studded lineup of scientists returned to 51���� April 25-26 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute.

Sarah Spinner Liska, Director of the 51���� Museum, has been honored with the inaugural from Summit ArtSpace, recognizing her outstanding work in expanding access to the arts and championing inclusive creative spaces.

The roster of these current and former faculty assembled for 51����'s silver anniversary reads like the legend on a campus map, as so many in the 1935 photo had university buildings named for them. 

What began as a senior capstone project for aerospace engineering students at 51���� has grown into a full-fledged student organization preparing to take flight in a national competition.

Thanks to a collaboration between Peg’s Foundation & Gallery, Scabal and 51����’s School of Fashion, Peg’s Foundation & Gallery will become the epicenter of international art, fashion and innovation this summer with the U.S. premiere of “Dalí Beyond Time: Fashioning the Future.” The groundbreaking exhibit will bring 12 Salvador Dalí paintings commissioned for Scabal to Hudson, Ohio – and to American soil – for the very first time.

Muna Koirala’s first year at 51���� was an exercise in academic anxiety, and she’s willing to share her story in hopes that her struggles will help other students overcome their own.

In May, 51���� observes two historic institutional anniversaries, the first is of their founding as a school and the second is of the college being established as a university.

51���� graduate student Lauren Paterson and former teacher Marc Myers were recently featured on WBUR’s ‘Here and Now’ sharing their work together on The Legacy Project.

A mid-April Block Party, presented by the Flashes Activities Board, welcomed spring to campus with makers' tables, a caricature artist, a photo booth, a giant, inflatable slide and more. 

As a doctoral student of sociology, Adedayo Adeagbo is doing her research on dignity care for aging people using advancements of technology in healthcare. With a specialization in medical sociology, Adeagbo’s thesis is built on the perceptions and attitudes of healthcare workers and the use of robots for caring for older adults.

With the intent of helping members of the community in need of tax assistance, 51����’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free income tax preparation services for low-income and elderly taxpayers while giving students real-world experience.

51����’s nationally distinctive Master of Public Health (MPH) program provides students interested in continuing their public health educational journey online with several options, including the MPH with concentrations in health policy and management or social and behavioral sciences, and the STEM-designated MPH in epidemiology. The program positively impacts current graduate students and alumni in different ways.

Ethelyn VonHelmers Fitzsimmons of Mantua, who served as a secretary for three 51���� presidents, will celebrate her 110th birthday on May 17.

Three students who are members of the first cohort of the LeBron James Family Foundation I Promise program graduated from 51���� during the spring 2025 commencement.
