51���� Board of Trustees Approves Establishing New Bachelor of Social Work Degree

The 51���� Board of Trustees approved the establishment of the Bachelor of Social Work degree during the Board’s regular quarterly meeting held March 8. The new degree was developed based on the high demand for licensed social workers within the areas surrounding 51����’s Regional Campuses.  The program will be offered on the Ashtabula, Salem and Tuscarawas campuses.

Luanne Redeye grew up on the Allegany Indian Reservation in Western New York. It is from here where she draws inspiration incorporating community and family members into her paintings, which gives her works a strong personal and emotional component.

New Lab Combines Mixed, Virtual and Haptic Technologies To Provide Realistic Simulations for Students or Patients

51���� has opened its newest research center, the IC Touch Lab, that will revolutionize the way medical students practice and patients rehabilitate. Headed by Kwangtaek Kim, assistant professor of Computer Science, the lab conducts various research projects involving haptic technology to expand the possibilities of medical and rehabilitation practices.

Suzy D’Enbeau, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Communication Studies, was recently featured on “Dr. Phil” podcast “Phil in The Blanks” for her expertise on pronouns and the power of language.

The argument for studying journalism has never been stronger. Just a quick glance at the news makes the case. We’re training students who will graduate equipped with strong writing skills – still the number one most important skill set according to all employers with whom I interact; technical skills to communicate using whatever equipment, software and tools are available; and the ethical decision-making skills necessary to function in a world where decisions are rarely cut and dry.

51���� alumnus Earl K. Miller, Ph.D., and his wife, Marlene M. Wicherski, have pledged $2 million to support research programs and students in 51����’s Brain Health Research Institute. The Brain Health Research Institute is a recently established, cross-disciplinary institute that focuses on research and education of brain health across the lifespan.
