Ducro Family Makes $20,000 Gift to Rising Scholars Program

Continuing their longstanding commitment and support to the Ashtabula area and demonstrating the important role access to education plays in moving the community forward, the Ducro family recently made a generous $20,000 gift to the Rising Scholars program fund through the Ashtabula Foundation to 51���� at Ashtabula.

More than 20,000 people applied to be part of 51����’s Class of 2023, and 4,270 can now consider themselves to be Golden Flashes.

On the morning of May 4, 1970, 51���� student Howard Ruffner was hanging out in the office of the Daily 51����r in Taylor Hall when the phone rang.

The Midwest editor from Life magazine, based in Chicago, was calling to find out if there were any student photographers who had been taking photos over the weekend. 51���� had been the scene of student protests for several days, and more demonstrations were expected that day.
