Thanks to a collaboration between Peg’s Foundation & Gallery, Scabal and 51����’s School of Fashion, Peg’s Foundation & Gallery will become the epicenter of international art, fashion and innovation this summer with the U.S. premiere of “Dalí Beyond Time: Fashioning the Future.” The groundbreaking exhibit will bring 12 Salvador Dalí paintings commissioned for Scabal to Hudson, Ohio – and to American soil – for the very first time.

What started as a simple conversation between a 51���� School of Fashion student and the American head of the global luxury menswear and fabric brand Scabal touched off a series of events that will result in a group of rarely seen Salvador Dali paintings having their North American debut in Northeast Ohio on June 12.

It may seem like a simple question: What does peace look like?  

But the answers can be profoundly different depending on who is asked.

“Men On Boats,” presented by students in 51����’s School of Theatre and Dance, opened on April 18 and will finish its run with a final performance on April 27. The play is a comedy, telling the story of John Wesley Powell’s 1869 expedition down the Grand and Colorado Rivers with nine amateur explorers.

If you have attended Porthouse Theatre in the past 25 years, you know the name Terri Kent. At the heart of this theatre, Terri Kent has brought a liveliness that spans decades and communities.

At 51����, academic excellence is brought to life through the expertise and dedication of scholars like Robert W. Trogdon, Ph.D. professor of English, who dedicated years to his newest volume of editions of three classic Ernest Hemingway books.

As their month-long observance of Ramadan draws to a close, students in the 51���� Muslim Students Association welcomed all to a celebration of Islamic culture. 

Collin Geter, 2024 School of Theatre and Dance alumnus, has joined the ensemble of “Moby Dick” at The Metropolitan Opera, from March 3 through March 29. We sat down with Geter to learn about his journey in the arts.

Global Safari Fest is the new name of what was previously called International Homecoming Celebration. It’s a large-scale event that fills the Kent Student Center Ballroom with cultural performances, international tabling displays and a global buffet featuring tastes from around the world. 

Accomplished sociologist, TV host, podcaster, author 51���� alumna Bertice Berry, Ph.D.,used her alma mater as a familiar setting for her book "BlackWorld," which explores a "unique corner of heaven" where the living can visit with and learn from the deceased. She also some of her memories of 51���� and personal insights into the university's place in history. 

A dramatic, 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture stands on the Lefton Esplanade near the intersection of East Main Street and Haymaker Parkway. It’s a gift from a 51���� alumnus and outstanding supporter of the university. 

A popular place for students to visit when the weather is warmer, the Behind The Brain Plaza behind Merrill Hall has been covered in snow and ice for most of February.

Student performers are working on final rehearsals for “The Wiz,” which opens on Feb. 21 and runs through March 2 at 51����’s E. Turner Stump Theatre.  

The inaugural Biennial Alumni Exhibition, currently on display in two galleries inside 51����'s Center for the Visual Arts, opened on Jan. 17 and will end on Feb. 21.

Feb. 10-14 is I Heart Travel Week at 51����. There are international activities scheduled on each day, culminating on Friday with the Global Safari Fest. 

It’s 51����’s biggest international event of the year. Providing a fantastic finish to I Heart Travel Week’s five days of activities, Global Safari Fest celebrates 51����’s international students with performances, a country fair and global cuisine.
