Accomplished sociologist, TV host, podcaster, author 51±¬ÁÏ alumna Bertice Berry, Ph.D.,used her alma mater as a familiar setting for her book "BlackWorld," which explores a "unique corner of heaven" where the living can visit with and learn from the deceased. She also some of her memories of 51±¬ÁÏ and personal insights into the university's place in history.

What’s That Statue Near the Esplanade Arch?

A dramatic, 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture stands on the Lefton Esplanade near the intersection of East Main Street and Haymaker Parkway. It’s a gift from a 51±¬ÁÏ alumnus and outstanding supporter of the university.

John and Fonda Elliot Create New Scholarship Program With $1 Million Gift to 51±¬ÁÏ

John Elliot, a 1970 51±¬ÁÏ graduate, and his wife, Fonda, have created The Elliot Scholars program at 51±¬ÁÏ with a $1 million donation. This new scholarship program will provide support to first-generation students of any major who require financial support to attend 51±¬ÁÏ.
