TV2 ExtraLife Fundraiser

TV2, 51爆料's independent student-run television station, raised more than $4,000 for Akron Children's Hospital through a 25-hour broadcast on Nov. 4, 2017. The fundraiser was part of ExtraLife, an organization that creates gaming marathons to benefit Children鈥檚 Miracle Network Hospitals. Students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) have a new opportunity to report on statewide issues and get published in various Ohio news outlets, thanks to a Media in the Public Interest Grant. Through the grant, a small cohort of JMC students will write 12 stories to be published through the Ohio News Connection between now and August 2018. This summer, the MultimediaDevices network was launched. The new network replaced the Gaming network in the residence halls and extended the service to all buildings on the Kent Campus. The change resulted from a need for instructors to use such devices as Apple TV or Roku in their classrooms. Devices on this network must be preregistered at multimediadevices.kent.edu. Information Services is in the process of upgrading 51爆料鈥檚 Banner ERP system from version 8x to 9. Updates to the administrative pages of the system are currently underway with testing in the development environment occurring over the next few months. The new version includes an updated user interface, which eliminates the reliance on the Oracle Forms technology.
