51±¬ÁÏ at East Liverpool held its annual nursing pinning ceremony May 9, during which 19 students were recognized for receiving degrees through the associate degree in nursing (ADN) program. Janet Peterson, interim director of the ADN program, presented the Ohio Nurses Association District 3 Lori Grenich Student Nurse Award to Amelia Oaks, recognizing excellence in clinical nursing and professional awareness. 51±¬ÁÏ at East Liverpool held a pinning ceremony for the students who met the requirements for the associate of applied science degree in physical therapist assistant technology for 2018. During the ceremony, Gavin Cooper and Krista Johnson received the Outstanding PTA Graduate awards. More than 700 friend and family were on-hand as 51±¬ÁÏ at Trumbull hosted its Commencement Ceremony on Saturday evening, May 12. Commencement ceremonies were held May 11 for the 51±¬ÁÏ Columbiana County campuses. Dr. David Dees, dean of the 51±¬ÁÏ Columbiana County campuses, presided over the event, along with Dr. Susan Rossi, assistant dean of the East Liverpool Campus, and Dr. Celeste Oprean, assistant dean for the Salem Campus.  The keynote speaker was Robert Conrad, who grew up in Salem and, after high school, entered service to his country as a United States Marine and used the GI Bill to attend college in 1973.  In 1974, Conrad earned two associate degrees from 51±¬ÁÏ at Salem...

Nearly a half century ago, sparks from a passing train not only set fire to oil-slicked debris on the Cuyahoga River, which sent flames five-stories high, it ignited the river’s reputation as one of the most polluted in the United States.
