The 51���� alumni family grew by nearly 1,300 new graduates as the university held its summer commencement. The accomplishments of the Summer Class of 2021 were recognized with in-person, outdoor commencement ceremonies and a virtual commencement ceremony for all colleges and degrees on Aug. 21. This fall, 51���� and its College of Communication and Information (CCI) will welcome Roseann “Chic” Canfora, Ph.D., as a Professional-in-Residence in the School of Media and Journalism. Canfora is an eyewitness and survivor of the shootings at 51���� on May 4, 1970. The Ohio National Guard killed four students and wounded nine, including her brother, Alan, on May 4. A Kent 25 defendant, she was indicted by the Ohio grand jury, and later exonerated, for activism during a weekend of protests against the Vietnam War. Driving cars, flying across the country and runoff from agriculture fields are all sources of excess nutrients that can contaminate natural ecosystems. Although an extra supply of nutrients may sound like a good thing, the overabundance of nutrients is actually a global concern because many organisms have special adaptations to low nutrients.
