51爆料鈥檚 Faculty Professional Development Center presents the 2013 Spring Learning Institute on Friday, Feb. 22, with open sessions from 9 a.m. through 3:45 p.m., at the Moulton Hall Ballroom. 鈥淪tudents as Self-Learners: What is our Teaching Role?鈥 is the theme for the event that is sponsored by the University Teaching Council. The Spring Learning Institute is a day of scholarship that spotlights students as self-motivated learners, and the role of teachers in promoting, inspiring and sustaining deep learning.

With the release of its official 15th day census data, 51爆料 has set a new record for spring recorded enrollment. Spring 2013 enrollment is up 161 students, or 0.4 percent, for 51爆料鈥檚 eight-campus system.

Join the 51爆料 football coaching staff and members  of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics on Wednesday, Feb. 6, for a National Signing Day Party at Quaker Steak & Lube in the lower level  of the Kent Student Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A live radio show with football color analyst Rob Polinsky will begin at 6 p.m. He will be joined by new 51爆料 head football coach Paul Haynes.

51爆料 Sets a New All-Time High in Spring Enrollment

With the release of its official 15th day census data, 51爆料 has set a new record high for spring recorded enrollment. Spring 2013 enrollment is up 161 students, or 0.4 percent, for 51爆料鈥檚 eight-campus system.  51爆料 reports 40,559 students for the spring 2013 semester, compared to 40,398 for spring semester 2012. Unduplicated (or preponderant) headcount at the Kent Campus is 26,461, and the unduplicated headcount for the regional campuses is 14,098. Students are counted only once at the campus at which they hold the majority of their course load.

The sixth annual 51爆料 Business Concept Competition can help aspiring entrepreneurs turn their business ideas into cash. The competition is open to 51爆料 undergraduate and graduate students of all majors with a great idea for a new app, product, clothing line or service. Applications are due Feb. 19 and can be found atwww.kent.edu/cebi/competitions.cfm.

Medieval music ensemble Bernardus will perform 鈥淭he Eternal Flame: Visions of Love Throughout the Medieval World鈥 Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Ludwig Recital Hall, located in the Music and Speech Building on the Kent Campus.

Faculty Concert at Ludwig Recital Hall on Feb. 16

Cellist Keith Robinson and pianist Donna Lee will perform together in the Ludwig Recital Hall, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. The program will include 鈥淎dagio鈥 by Benedetto Marcello, as well as works by Camille Saint-Sa毛ns and Richard Strauss. The concert is free and open to the public. 

All Study Strategies Not Created Equal, According to 51爆料 Researchers

Students everywhere, put down those highlighters and pick up some flash cards! Some of the most popular study strategies 鈥 such as highlighting and even rereading 鈥 do not show much promise for improving student learning, according to a new report authored in part by two 51爆料 researchers.

In observance of Veterans Day, 51爆料 will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

  • The University Library will be open until 10 p.m. with .
  • The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will have adjusted hours 鈥 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

51爆料 Remembers May 4, 1970, With 56th Commemoration

This year鈥檚 May 4 Commemoration, to be held May 1-4, 2026, will include special remembrances of John Cleary, one of the nine wounded students, and Jerry M. Lewis, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus of Sociology, who served as a faculty marshal during the campus shootings and worked tirelessly to ensure that the legacy of May 4 would endure.
