Mackenzie Savage

  • Business Administration & Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs Double Major
  • First-year
  • Graduate Assistant, Marketing

Meet Mackenzie Savage, our Marketing Graduate Assistant, whose creativity and curiosity have made a meaningful impact on her since she joined the team.

Mackenzie is in her first semester of graduate school, currently pursuing an MBA in Business Administration, and an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration & Student Affairs. She stepped into her role as a Marketing Graduate Assistant in June 2025.

Despite her earlier marketing experience, she describes stepping into her first professional marketing role as a bit intimidating. 鈥淚 felt like the new kid,鈥 Mackenzie shared. However, colleagues like Liberty and Brooke, along with her supervisors, helped make her transition seem seamless. With their reassurance throughout her journey, she was given the confidence to dive into her new responsibilities.  What she valued most about her time here was the respect and trust everyone had in each other.

Mackenzie鈥檚 role consists of developing and managing marketing content, promoting programs and services, and helping to secure sponsorship and advertising opportunities for patrons and students. Even with the challenges of being in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and creative position, she has still thrived. Mackenzie first explored her passion for marketing when she took the title of the first undergraduate student to take part in her earlier social media marketing internship program. She learned here that making connections and stepping out of your comfort zone can light up the spark for new interests.

At RecWell, Mackenzie says, it has solidified her goals and encouraged her to pursue more creative avenues like Sports and Entertainment marketing. At the department, she has practiced video editing and other content-creation work while collaborating with other areas in RecWell. Mackenzie recalls a time when a former administrator left, and she found herself left with questions she had to answer and tasks she was not used to. Regardless of how heavy the responsibilities were, her team around her gave her the support she needed. During this time, she was given handwritten thank-you notes from administrators and was reminded that her contributions were recognized and appreciated.

鈥淒on鈥檛 let the size of the facility or department scare you off鈥,  Mackenzie recommends new hires, 鈥淚t may feel intimidating at first, but once you鈥檙e here, you realize everyone is figuring it out together. Everything becomes smaller than it looks because it is a community鈥. Not only did she offer heartfelt advice for students considering joining the RecWell community, but she also added one more example of her willingness to step into new adventures: she recently bought her first motorcycle!
