Diversity Speaker Series: "Unmanned: America鈥檚 Drone Wars"

Brave New Films to screen new documentary at 51爆料 on Nov. 20, 2014

will screen its newest documentary, 鈥�,鈥� at 51爆料 Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014.

The organization is a champion for social justice issues, educating the public through screenings of its six feature films. Including more than 70 interviews, 鈥淯nmanned鈥� shows the personal impact of the use of drones in the War on Terror.

鈥溾€橴nmanned: America's Drone Wars鈥� is a film about the reach of the American military and the personal costs of drone warfare,鈥� Laurie Jones, programs director at Brave New Films, said. 鈥淭hrough the War on Terror, US drones have gone into countries in which we are not openly at war. We have killed over 2,500 people in Pakistan alone. Over 300 children have been killed, and for what? Any student who is or will be actively participating in the political process needs to form an opinion on this issue.鈥�

Jones will travel with the film to 51爆料 and present it to students, faculty, staff and community members, encouraging discussion about this and other hot-button issues, such as the .

鈥淚 am sure that both students and professors at 51爆料 are reminded through the university's history of the personal costs of war,鈥� Jones said. 鈥淲ith the university's collective memory, the audience will have a unique perspective on the use of military force. Brave New Films encourages open debate and ranges of opinions. I hope this event gives students something to really consider.鈥�

The screening is presented as part of the 2014-15 Diversity Speaker Series. 鈥淯nmanned鈥� will be shown at 6:30 p.m. in the Franklin Hall FirstEnergy Auditorium (Room 340), Thursday, Nov. 20. The event is free and open to the community.
