Call for KnitFUTURES Submissions

We invite submissions for research supporting the advancement of knitting to support people, environment and place across disciplines. We seek to engage researchers from both academia and industry to facilitate conversation, knowledge exchange and collaboration.

Timeline

Submission deadline – December 1

Notification date – December 15

Hotel block open – December 15-February 1

Event – March 5 and 6, 2026

Call for Papers + Projects

We invite abstract submissions from an interdisciplinary audience, seeking to conduct knowledge exchange around knitting from a variety of perspectives. These could include:

  • Materials and Knit Structures
  • Relationship between Craft of material making with Digital Technology
  • Space between Research, Development, and Production
  • Pushing beyond Limitations
  • Sustainability & Circular Economy
  • Manufacturing
  • Education
  • Impact on Humanity

Presentation formats

  • Pecha Kucha
  • Poster and/or object exhibition

Abstract Preparation

Please prepare the following items so submit via Qualtrics form:

  • Written 300-500-word abstract describing your research process, goals, and results or expected results for in-process projects.
  • Title
  • A question you would like to ask a panel of knit experts
  • Optional – 1-5 images of your work, saved in one file as an attachment up to 10MB
  • A 100-word bio
  • Presentation format preference

PRESENTATIONS / SESSIONS

Sessions are focused on facilitating knowledge and idea exchange and fruitful discussions. Details for each type of presentation format are below.

Pecha Kucha Presentations:
Presentations will be 7-minute Pecha-Kucha presentations followed by discussion. Presenters will serve as panelists during the question and discussion time.

Poster / Object Exhibition:
Mixed presentation of poster and object presentation. Open for the duration of the event, with a dedicated session for attendees to interact with presenters. Tables, dress forms will be provided for objects. Easels with corkboards will be provided for posters.
