Deferral Process

 

Defer Your Admission

New students that would like to start their program at 51 for a future semester are welcome to defer their admission. Your admission is valid up to two (2) semesters from the original term of admission. Restrictions for deferrals may apply as some academic programs only admit for the Fall term. 

 

Undergraduate Deferrals

 1. Log into your applicant portal at

2. Scroll to Forms, and click Admission Offer Confirmation UG. The OGE Admission Offer Confirmation form is located above your Application Checklist.

3. Select "I ACCEPT my offer of admission" on your application, and click "Yes" under the question “Do you want to change your entry term.” Your options will automatically populate.

4. Click on the New Term Requested.

5. Type your name in the Electronic Signature box and click submit.

6. A staff member in the International Admissions office will review your request, and you will be notified if your request is approved or denied via email. We will reach out to you regarding your new immigration documents.  Please note to receive an updated I20, you will  be asked to submit new financial documents if your previous financial documents are older than 6 months.

Graduate Deferrals

1. Click the link to the Graduate Admission Offer Reply Form in your electronic decision letter. You can also access this form under Forms in your applicant portal at

2. Select "I accept the offer of admission but to a different term" on the form.

3. Read the statements found in the Admission Agreement form that automatically populate. You must agree with all statements to proceed with the deferral process.

4. Read the statements found at the top of the Admission Term Deferral Agreement section of the form. You must agree with all statements to proceed with the deferral process.

5. Click on the New Term requested.

6.  Type your name in the Electronic Signature box and click submit.

Deferral FAQ's

When is the deadline to defer my admission to a future term?

Graduate students: Please start this process as soon as you finalize your plans. Although most programs do not have a formal acceptance deadline, we recommend you communicate with your program coordinator about your plans.

Undergraduate students: There is no deadline to defer your admission if it’s valid and within the one-year limit.

I enrolled in classes but decided not to attend – do I have to drop them if I defer my admission?

Yes, you must drop your classes though Flashline. This is extremely important and will result in a past due balance. Please make sure to review important dates on the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center's website.

How long does it take to defer my admission?

Requests will be reviewed within 1-2 business weeks, although it may take additional time closer to the start of a new term. Please monitor your email for updates.
